Oil Cleansers Have Completely Changed My Skin
12/01/2015

DIY Oil Ceanser

When I was a teen they told us to stay away from oil if you had acne, now they have busted that myth even finding that some oils will prevent breakouts. A few years ago I got hooked on oils from cleansing to moisturizing and my skin has never looked or behaved better. I use an oil based cleanser at night to remove makeup, it is the best when it comes to removing makeup. While in the am I stick with a water based cleanser because I don't need a heavy cleanser in the morning. Out of financial necessity I make most of my cleansers, masks and moisturizer's myself but it also allows me to control the quality of the ingredients as well as being able to make the perfect combinations for my specific skincare needs.

I know everyone is coconut oil crazy right now but coconut oil can clog your pores and although I love coconut oil for my hair or shaving my legs, I'm not loving it as far as cleansing my face. I use a mix of 3 oils that I have found to work the best for me.

Jojoba Oil is great for mature skin, dry skin and acne prone skin. It actually mimics sebum oil, the culprit for those pesky breakouts but doesn't clog your pores. It tricks your body into not producing sebum oil but it is also amazing on tired, dry skin.

Apricot Oil is also good for acne prone skin but I use it for its anti aging properties. It is not as thick as jojoba oil so it absorbs into your skin better making it a better choice as a daytime oil/moisturizer.

Sea Buckthorn Oil is high in fatty acids, vitamins and minerals but it is orange and does not smell good. They used it to heal radiation burns in Russia, heals acne, anti inflammatory and extremely moisturizing so the benefits out way the smell. I have used it on the kids to heal and relieve the affects of sunburn, it worked instantly. In fact it worked so well they kept using it even though it turned them orange and smelled bad, teenage girls so that says something. Since you are using it as a cleanser you will be washing it off, same with the smell. It is great to add to your pm moisturizer/oil just be careful you don't add to much or you will stain your bed linen

I mix 2 parts Apricot Oil, 1 part Jojoba Oil and a few drops of Sea Buckthorn Oil. If my skin is more dry or I am having other issues I will use more Jojoba oil and add more Sea Buckthorn Oil but you can play with it to find the right combination for your skin.

How To Use:

I do not use this oil mix on my eye makeup instead I use just the apricot oil. I've never tried it because of the thickness of the jojoba oil and pretty much everything about the sea buckthorn oil.

Massage in circular motion, or give yourself a facial massage moving toward your lymph nodes to detox for 5 minutes. Just like brushing our teeth most people do not spend enough time on washing their face.

Rinse with warm water, I use a cheap wash cloth one because the Sea Buckthorn is orange, no joke orange and two it is a great cheap way to exfoliate.

Pat dry and follow with your night skincare routine.

Side Note:

Some people may break out when they first switch to an oil cleanser but after a few weeks when your skin adjusts your skin should clear up. It takes 6 to 8 weeks to see any real significant changes in your skin when ever you start using a new product or skincare routine. Actually the same rule applys to any nutritional changes you make as well, if not longer. Personally I like to give any new regiment at least 30 days before I decide if it does or doesn't work.
